Summary

The CAD Designer I is responsible for creating and maintaining 2D engineering drawings and 3D CAD models in support of tire development and manufacturing. Typical responsibilities include producing tire profile and sidewall drawings based on established design standards and existing model sizes. More complex drawings and models are completed with guidance from Engineers or senior Designers.

 

The CAD Designer I works closely with Tire Engineers and Design team members to support development activities, assists with drawing revisions, and participates in established CAD and documentation workflows. This role supports the generation of CAD data required for the procurement and manufacturing of experimental and production tires while continuing to develop technical skills and proficiency in CAD systems and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Works with Tire Engineers to generate basic drawings such as tire profile and sidewall drawings according to established design standards for sizes based upon an existing model.
  • Create and update basic 3D CAD models with direction from Engineers and senior Designers.
  • Check and correct drawings created by other CAD Designers as assigned, ensuring accuracy and compliance with design standards.
  • Make necessary revisions to drawings and models in response to engineering input, design reviews, and manufacturing feedback.
  • Follow established CAD, documentation, and documentation procedures to ensure consistency, accuracy, and completeness of assigned work.
  • Support the preparation, management, and release of drawings and associated documentation, including publishing and maintaining PDF files.
  • Utilize PLM to check in/check out CAD data, manage revisions, and maintain proper file organization under supervision.
  • Identify potential issues or discrepancies in drawings or models and coordinate with Engineers or senior Designers to resolve them.
  • Provide general CAD and documentation support for Engineers and Designers as requested.
  • Participate in training to improve CAD proficiency and understanding of company standards and workflows.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the development and manufacturing process.   

Knowledge and Skills

  • Good written and verbal communication skills; able to work effectively in a team environment and follow supervision and direction.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand basic engineering concepts and design intent.
  • Training in the use of 2D and 3D CAD software such as PTC Creo (preferred), AutoCAD, and/or CATIA.
  • Basic understanding of drawing creation, revision practices, and controlled documentation processes.
  • Ability to review drawings for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established standards with guidance.
  • Willingness to learn engineering change processes and PLM-based workflows (e.g., Windchill).
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage assigned tasks and priorities. 

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree or higher in CAD and/or Design.
  • 1-3 Years experience preferred, but no experience required.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time while working on a computer.
  • Ability to repeat motions that include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and or move up to 20 pounds.
