Summary

The CAD Engineer II is responsible for creating and managing detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and design documentation to support tire product development. This role bridges product engineering and CAD expertise, ensuring that tire designs meet Engineering specifications, manufacturability, and regulatory requirements. The position requires technical skills, CAD proficiency, and the ability to work independently on moderately complex design projects while collaborating with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain detailed 3D models and 2D drawings of products, components, and tooling.
  • Prepare engineering drawings and documentation for prototypes, testing, and production release.
  • Ensure all CAD work adheres to company, industry, and regulatory standards (e.g., GD&T, FMVSS).
  • Perform design and drawing verification checks to ensure accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Manage CAD data, revisions, and version control through PDM system.
  • Support necessary changes to designs with direction from Tire Engineers.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and revising existing designs to address performance or manufacturing concerns. Identify potential issues and resolve with minimal assistance.
  • Manage portions of projects to provide support for other Engineers and Designers. Perform other duties as needed

Knowledge and Skills

  • Good communication skills. Able to work well in a group and follow supervision.
  • Proficient in various 2D and 3D CAD Software programs such as AutoCAD, CATIA, and CREO.
  • Experience with PDM/PLM systems for CAD data management and revision control.
  • Manage goals and portions of projects efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Understanding of general design standards and manufacturing methods.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, drafting standards, tolerance analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 2-5 Years of Experience in design, preferably in the tire, automotive, or related manufacturing industry.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time while working on a computer.
  • Ability to repeat motions that include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and or move up to 20 pounds
